The school community witnessed history in motion as the Chief Olatunde Abudu Primary Schools Football Tournament kicked off in spectacular fashion. Organised in honour of the school’s late founder, Chief Olatunde Abudu, the tournament stands as a powerful tribute to a man whose life was defined by philanthropy, vision, and an unwavering belief in empowering young people.
Although the competition was introduced a few years ago, the 2026 edition has been nothing short of extraordinary. Bigger in scale, richer in quality, and record-breaking in attendance, this year’s tournament has firmly established itself as a flagship grassroots sports event. About twenty primary schools converged to compete for the prestigious cup, transforming the football pitch into a theatre of passion, talent, and youthful excellence.
The tournament officially kicked off on Saturday, 31st January 2026, amid cheers from enthusiastic spectators, school administrators, parents, and football lovers. From the very first whistle, it was clear that this was more than just a competition. Match after match delivered thrilling moments — dazzling footwork, tactical brilliance, teamwork, and an admirable display of sportsmanship from the young participants.
One of the most striking outcomes of the tournament has been the remarkable level of raw talent on display. Many of the children demonstrated skills and confidence well beyond their age, reinforcing the belief that stars are truly born, not made. With the right mentorship, exposure, and opportunities, several of these young players possess the potential to rise to national and even international football prominence.

The excitement is far from over. The semi-finals and grand finale are scheduled to take place in March, as part of the school’s Inter-House Sports, promising an electrifying climax to an already unforgettable tournament.
Beyond football, the Chief Olatunde Abudu Primary Schools Football Tournament reflects the school’s broader commitment to holistic education — nurturing not only academic excellence but also talent, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. It is a clear demonstration of the school’s role as a trailblazer in youth development and community engagement.
As the competition progresses toward its grand finale, one thing is certain: this tournament has already succeeded in creating opportunities, inspiring dreams, and preserving the legacy of a great man through the power of sport.
At this school, we don’t just educate — we discover, nurture, and prepare the stars of tomorrow.
